Michael Alicea Honored in Hispanic Executive’s 2018 Best of the Boardroom Class

We’re excited to share that Hispanic Executive magazine recently profiled Michael Alicea, Nielsen’s EVP, Global Human Resources, as a member of its 2018 Best of the Boardroom class. The Best of the Boardroom issue recognizes U.S. Latino and Latina business leaders who serve as corporate board directors and advocate for greater Hispanic board director representation in the U.S.

Michael currently serves as a board director for Emerald Expositions, the largest trade-show organization in the U.S. and a $1.6 billion New York Stock Exchange-traded company. In January 2015, he was recognized for his achievements at Nielsen and received the Arthur C. Nielsen Chairman’s Award for outstanding achievement. Named for our founder, the Arthur C. Nielsen Award is the company’s highest internal honor and recognizes associates who have made a profound impact on our business. Additionally, he has been honored for four consecutive years by the Imagen Foundation as one of “The Most Powerful & Influential Latinos in Entertainment.”

In addition to Michael’s everyday responsibilities at Nielsen where he oversees human resources activities for more than 30,000 associates around the world, he is also the Executive Sponsor of our Hispanic/Latinx External Advisory Council, which advises us on the best ways to ensure accurate measurement of diverse communities. In this role, Michael plays a vital role in infusing diversity and inclusion into everything we do at Nielsen. He also serves as a board director for the Emma Bowen Foundation, which is dedicated to preparing minority youth for careers in media.

In the Hispanic Executive article, Michael talks about his passion for mentoring young leaders and the importance of seeing and engaging executives who look like you. “I can advise them about the challenges they’ll face,” he says. “I tell them that the roadblocks in front of them are only temporary, that they can overcome them. I want to pass that on because I believe strongly in the idea that if you know you can make something better, you have to do that, otherwise you are part of the problem.”

This honor comes on the heels of Nielsen’s fifth-consecutive recognition on DiversityInc’s Top 50 list for Corporate Diversity and Inclusion.
