Nielsen Included On the North American Dow Jones Sustainability Index

For the first time, Nielsen has been selected as an index component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) North America Index.

Launched in 1999, the DJSI were the first global indices tracking the financial performance of leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. Companies that are included in the DJSI indices are considered to be industry leaders in corporate responsibility and sustainability; inclusion opens companies up for expanded investment, reflecting a growing trend in investor interest in companies that are high-performing from an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) perspective.

“We’re delighted to be included in the DJSI North America Index,” said Crystal Barnes, SVP, Global Responsibility & Sustainability, Nielsen. “This is a testament to the many teams that drive our responsibility and sustainability efforts across the environmental, social and governance areas that matter for Nielsen and for our stakeholders. We’re committed to continually improving and sharing this journey within and beyond Nielsen.”

Our Global Responsibility & Sustainability strategy at Nielsen includes all ESG issues that affect our business, operations, and all internal and external stakeholders. Nielsen’s inclusion in the DJSI North America Index reflects our focus on providing increased transparency about our ESG efforts, such as through our Nielsen Global Responsibility Report, and the overall integration of ESG considerations as part of our core business strategy.

The DJSI are maintained collaboratively by S&P Dow Jones Indices (S&P DJI), one of the world’s leading index providers, and RobecoSAM, an investment specialist focused exclusively on Sustainability Investing.

Each year, over 3,400 publicly traded companies are invited to participate in RobecoSAM’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA); this year, a record 942 companies participated. The CSA measures each company’s performance against material ESG factors specific to their industries, providing a comprehensive view of their overall corporate responsibility and sustainability progress and results.
