Nielsen Cincinnati Office Wins Top Transit-Friendly Destination Award

2 minute read | July 2018

Through responsible, sustainable business practices and our commitment to giving back, we care for the communities and markets where we live and operate our business. And we do more than just talk about this commitment: we act on it!

Through Nielsen Green, our environmental sustainability program, we continuously identify, bring awareness to, and advocate for, sustainable options in an effort to manage and reduce Nielsen’s negative impact on the environment by driving operational efficiencies. Going greener is something we take to heart throughout our value chain, including with our volunteer associates’ Green Teams who lead grassroots initiatives, changing the way we interact with the environment each day.  In fact, our office in Cincinnati was recently recognized by Green Umbrella as the Top Transit-Friendly Workplace in the city for their sustainable practices.

According to Green Umbrella, a regional sustainability alliance in the Cincinnati tri-state area, transit-friendly destinations practice social and environmental responsibility by integrating sustainable transit into their organization’s culture and actively promoting transit ridership. The award accounts for office proximity to bus and bike share stops, proportion of employees using commuting in energy efficient ways (walking, taking the bus or bike share, and carpooling), and the office’s sponsorship of educational opportunities with the Cincinnati Metro, the city’s public bus service. Nielsen’s Cincinnati Green Team applied for the award and received the top mention.

Green Umbrella presented Nielsen with the award at the alliance’s annual Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit at Xavier University on June 15, 2018, and our Green Team members were there to receive it.

Nielsen has been a member of Green Umbrella for several years. Our “Action Teams” represent our most prominent involvement in the association. These groups of like-minded people focus on green initiatives and provide real, measurable results in various sustainable areas, many of which align with some of the key pillars for Nielsen Green: metrics and tracking, sustainable transportation and waste reduction, among others.

Our Cincinnati team’s “Top Transit-Friendly Destination Award” reflects Nielsen’s commitment to environmental sustainability, and the win is a catalyst for continued education in the office and support for both local and global green efforts.
